Once again as in Chapter 1, the recurrence of the secret hiding place was mentioned. This is another example of foreshadowing. On page 30, George warned Lennie that if Curley ever comes to Lennie to hurt him escape to the secret spot. George said, "Look, Lennie, if you get in any kind of trouble, you remember what I told you to do." My prediction is that Lennie will get himself into trouble and the two companions will meet up at the secret hiding place down by the river. I also think that Curley will be the guy to mess with Lennie and try to make him talk.
What do you think will happen with Lennie and George's secret hiding spot?
I believe that Henry is right when he says that Curley is going to pick a fight with Lennie, and Lennie is going to run to the place where George told him to go if there was any trouble. I also believe that Curley is going to follow Lennie to the hiding spot and when George shows up, Curley is going to fight George. This is what I think what will happen, because “[Curley’s] glance was calculating and pugnacious” when he looked at Lennie. Pugnare means “to fight” in Latin, which means that Curley was preparing for a fight.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Henry that Lennie will go the secret hiding spot if Curley picks a fight with Lennie. However there is a part of me thinks that if Curley does pick a fight with Lennie, Lennie may not remember to go to the secret hiding spot because of his history of forgetting things. If Lennie and Curley did fight and Lennie didn't go to the hiding spot, the BOSS may get upset and decide not give Lennie his stake.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Henry that Curley will pick a fight with Lennnie. I also agree with Joe because I think that Lennie will pick a fight with Curley and then he will forget to go to the hiding spot. I also think that George might get into a fight with Curley. If he does get into a fight and is forced to run away to the brush himself, then I believe Lennie will be forced to live on the ranch by himself. This could cause major problems considering that he is not very bright and will probably say something to get him fired.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything mentioned above. I want to address the literary term of foreshadowing as it was of high prevalence throughout parts one and two in the novel. In part two, instantly after Curly is introduced, George is worried about Lenny's safety around Curly. He brings up the brush by the pond again as he did in part one. My guess is that Curly will be angered further more by the issue that it occurring between George is Lenny. This issue is that George talks for Lenny. This angers Curly because he wants Lenny to talk for himself. This conflict in my view could potentially lead to Lenny being attacked by Curly. I believe that Lenny will listen to what George said and will retreat into the brush by the pond. I believe that this plan will save Lenny from being attacked by Curly. Overall I believe that Lenny will hide in the brush when he is attacked by Curly due to the foreshadowing the author gave us.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Henry that Curly will pick a fight with Lennie. But I do not agree with Henry when he says that Lennie will get to the hiding spot because he forgets things easily and might forget to go. If Lennie and curly get in a fight and Lennie doesn't go to the hidding spot like he was supposed to, the boss may get mad and George.
