Section 1 Lenny and George

As I was reading section 1 of the novel, "Of Mice and Men," I realized the relationship of the two characters introduced, George and Lenny. George and Lenny had a very different friendship that I would imagine true friends would share. First to start, Lenny was a man who forgot everything and often caused trouble. George was a man who often was bossy and the responsible one compared to Lenny. I would say that the friendship of Lenny and George was actually quite ironic. I say this because most people would expect that friends always are there for each other and they encourage them and help them when they struggle. Instead, George treats Lenny nearly the opposite. He says to Lenny, "I got you! You cant keep a job and you loose me ever' job I get. Jus' keep me shovin' all over the country all the time. An' that ain't the worst of it. You get in trouble. You do bad things and I got to get you out." His voice rose nearly to a shout. "You crazy son-of-a-bitch. You keep me in hot water all the time." As seen, Lenny has just really disrespected George and it is ironic that a true friend would treat him this way. I think that it is very mean of George to treat Lenny this way and again I am very surprised that Lenny is treated this way by his friend. I am thrilled to find out how this "friendship" of George and Lenny develops.

Do you agree that George and Lenny's friendship is ironic.
