The author describes Lenny as a sort of optimistic guy who makes the most out of the situation. He describes George as a serious and gruff guy. From the first part of the story I can already tell that the two balance each other out. Lenny who is an intellectually challenged character is difficult to put up with due to his disability, but George still stays with him. The two of them live a lonely life and depend upon each other. George shows that he likes to be in control of the situation and Lenny goes with what ever George says.
