Part 1

Part one shows George and Lennie to us. George is a small man who likes to be in control. he swears a lot. Lennie is a big man who dose not have a very good memory.  This goes back to the question on the sheet about whether or not a person with an intellectual deficiency is worth the same as someone who dose not.  Lennie is intellectually inferior to George and George knows it. In this case the answer to that question is yes. George is still treating Lennie like a friend instead of scorning him for his intellectual disability. In the gallery the was a mention about a dog and that is compared to Lennie. This is unfair because Lennie really tries to be "normal" but can't. The dog on the other hand could not care one way or another. If the dog dose something wrong and you yell at it it will slink away. However when George yells at Lennie, he still stays.

  1. I disagree with the fact that you said Lenny has an intellectual disability. I just think that he doesn't have the best memory.

  2. Giles: In order to give you guys some background knowledge on the two main characters, I've explained that Lennie does in face have a mental disability. As the novel moves forward, there will be more evidence of this presented by the author.

Jonah: While there is definitely evidence of George viewing/treating Lennie as a friend, I would have to argue that he ALSO scorns him for his intellectual inferiority. For example, on p. 7 George said, "God you're a lot of trouble...I could get along so easy and so nice if I didn't have you on my tail. I could live so easy and maybe have a girl." So the question I pose to you is: WHY the big discrepancy? It seems that Lennie irritates George and that he may feel some resentment, yet at the same time George tells Lennie he wants him to stay...

    1. The discrepancy is probably because George really dose like Lennie, however, he really thinks it would be easier without him. It seems that George also needs Lennie to help him get jobs. You could try to hire two separate people, but why go to all of that trouble. Also Lennie is bigger and stronger than most.
